Building a Safe Space at Home: Discussion Guide

In March 2026, Lake Health and Wellbeing and the TaiwanICDF were delighted to launch the “Building a Safe Space at Home” animation in collaboration with the National Counselling Centre and the Ministry of Health.

Developed by Lake Health and Wellbeing’s Creative Director, the animation aims to raise awareness of the challenges that young people may face and provides practical insights into how families can nurture supportive and understanding home environments.

Through relatable scenarios and simple messages, the animation encourages parents and guardians to reflect on how they communicate with young people and how they can create spaces where young people feel comfortable sharing their concerns and experiences.

Discussion Guide

Today, we’re delighted to launch a supporting resource, a discussion guide, to accompany the animation.  The guide is designed to help educators and community groups  use the animation to:

  • Introduce the topic of youth mental health in an accessible way
  • Support meaningful conversations with parents and guardians
  • Provide practical strategies for creating supportive home environments

The guide provides two options as to how the animation can be used to encourage discussion. This includes:

  • Option 1: Panel Discussion Format
  • Option 2: Parent/Guardian Discussion Session

It also includes suggested panelists, discussion questions, and facilitation tips.

We hope that his guide will allow meaningful and impactful conversations to take place about the mental health of young people and their parents.

You can access the guide here

We would love to hear from you. If you do use the guide to organise an event, we would be so delighted if you would let us know how you used it. You can send us an email or WhatsApp message to let us know how your event went and to share any pictures and any interesting insights you gleaned from your event.
