On the 15th of July 2026, we were delighted to welcome representatives from the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA) to St. Kitts and Nevis. This visit formed part of the onboarding for our new European Union (EU) Grant under the EU’s ‘Social Protection and Nutrition for Sustainable Agri-Food Systems in the Caribbean’ initiative (EU-Caribbean Nutrition Facility: Nourishing Futures Together).
The EU-Caribbean Nutrition Facility (EU-CaN)
EU-CaN is part of the EU Regional Food Security Programme (2023 – 2027), and it supports:
- Expanding inclusive national social protection systems for agricultural actors
- Promoting equitable access to healthy, nutritionally adequate diets.
Overall, EU-CaN aims to make Caribbean food systems more sustainable, resilient to climate change and better able to achieve food security and good nutrition for everyone. The priority countries are Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
EU-CaN is funded by the European Union and jointly implemented by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIAP), Spain and the Central Project Management Agency (CPVA), Lithuania.
Our EU-CaN Project
We were delighted to have been successful with our grant application and so proud to have been awarded our first-ever EU grant. This funding will support our My Healthy Heroes programme, which aims to use a creative approach to promote healthy eating in young people. This EU-funded project will run for 12 months and focus on nutrition education, awareness and advocacy.
Our project aims to contribute to addressing one of the biggest public health challenges facing St. Kitts and Nevis and the wider region: non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
NCDs are the leading cause of death in St. Kitts and Nevis, accounting for 77% of all deaths. Many NCDs are lifestyle-related and, therefore, preventable. Diets high in added sugar, salt, saturated fat, and that contain industrially produced trans fats significantly increase a person’s risk of developing NCDs. By focusing on nutrition education, awareness, and advocacy, this project seeks to support healthier behaviours by improving young people’s knowledge and understanding of healthy eating and advocating for evidence-based food policies that create healthier food environments.
We are very much looking forward to starting this project and are very grateful to the EU for their funding and for the support provided by the CPVA.
