Healthy Drinking Habits Matter

At the heart of our “You’re Sweet Enough” campaign is a fervent advocacy for the adoption of healthy drinking habits, with a particular emphasis on the significance of water consumption. But why is this focus on beverages so crucial?

The consumption of certain beverages, such as alcohol and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) like sodas and juices, has been closely linked to the development of various non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including diabetes and obesity. We understand that quitting these habits can be challenging, and that’s why we firmly believe that everyone, including policymakers, has a role to play in safeguarding our nation’s health.

As part of our mission, we’re calling on policymakers to implement critical measures that can make a significant impact on public health:

1. Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Tax: Introducing a tax on SSBs can act as a deterrent to their consumption, encouraging individuals to make healthier choices and reducing the risk of NCDs.

2. Front-of-Package Warning Labels: Clear and prominent warning labels on the front of beverage containers can inform consumers about the health risks associated with these products, aiding them in making informed choices.

3. Comprehensive School Nutrition Policies: Schools play a vital role in shaping the dietary habits of our youth. Implementing policies that promote healthier options and limit the availability of unhealthy beverages can have a lasting impact on our children’s well-being.

4. Alcohol Reduction Policies: Addressing excessive alcohol consumption through effective policies can significantly reduce the risk of alcohol-related NCDs and promote a healthier drinking culture in our society.

In a video featuring Michele Baker, Advocacy Officer for our “You’re Sweet Enough” project, we delve into the pressing need for health policies and why their implementation is not just important but urgent. Michele sheds light on the impact of these policies and their potential to safeguard the overall well-being of our nation.

Join us in our mission for a healthier nation by championing healthy drinking habits and supporting policies that can pave the way for a brighter and healthier future.
