Exploring the Link Between Nutrition and Mental Wellbeing

As part of our Routes to Resilience campaign, we recently hosted an insightful webinar that explored the connection between nutrition and mental wellbeing. The session focused on how the foods we eat can influence not only our physical health, but also our mood, energy levels, stress response, and overall emotional wellbeing.

During the webinar, Registered Dietitian Genesia Pemberton guided participants through the role of nutrition in supporting mental wellness. She highlighted how everyday dietary choices can either support or strain our mental health, and why adopting a more mindful and intentional approach to eating is essential for long-term wellbeing.

A key theme of the session was mindful eating, encouraging participants to become more aware of their hunger cues, emotional triggers, and eating patterns. Genesia explained how stress, busy schedules, and emotional challenges can often lead to unhealthy eating habits, which in turn may affect mood and mental clarity. By slowing down, tuning into the body, and making conscious food choices, individuals can build a healthier and more balanced relationship with food.

The webinar also explored the role of nutrition in stress management and emotional regulation. Participants learned how certain nutrients support brain function, energy levels, and stress responses, and how regular, balanced meals can help stabilise mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and fatigue. Practical, real-world strategies were shared to help participants make small, sustainable changes that fit into their daily lives.

Whether participants were looking to better understand how food impacts their mental health or seeking practical tools to improve their wellbeing, the session offered valuable guidance for taking a more holistic approach to health, one that recognises the strong link between mind and body.
