Shake it Out is a fun and engaging animation designed to encourage physical activity among children. It was developed as a partnership between Lake Health and Wellbeing and Move With Dani.
Why Promote Physical Activity?
Physical activity is vital for children’s overall health and development. It contributes to weight loss and improves physical wellbeing by enhancing strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health. Furthermore, physical activity positively impacts a child’s mental health and improves their social, behavioural, and academic outcomes.
The Benefit of Short Movement Breaks
Through Shake it Out, we’re promoting short movement breaks because they are easy to fit into the school day, are effective at reducing sedentary time, and have several advantages, including:
Improved Focus: Brief breaks enhance concentration and attention span.
Enhanced Energy Levels: Movement breaks help prevent fatigue, boosting energy levels for better engagement in learning.
Encourages Social Interaction: Group activities promote teamwork and socialisation among children.
Try Shake It Out
We’re inviting teachers and anybody who works with pre- and primary school children (grades k-2) to use our Shake it Out toolkit and provide us with feedback. The toolkit contains:

An Educator’s Guide which provides instructions on how to integrate the animation into daily school activities.
A Movement Breakdown Guide to aid educators in teaching students the movements.
A Terms of Use Agreement outlining how the Shake it Out animation can be used
An Evaluation Form: for educators to provide feedback on the effectiveness and usability of the resource.
