Tell us about your career and/or educational journey so far.
I am a practising Clinical Dietitian, accepted to the Council of Professions Related to Medicine in Trinidad and Tobago. I have had a rewarding career and educational journey thus far. My qualifications consist of a Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics with honours, as well as a Certification in Institutional and Community Dietetics and Nutrition from the University of the West Indies. Through my years of studies, I gained extensive knowledge in Food Service Management, Clinical Dietetics, and Community Nutrition from my Bachelors degree as well as research, culminating in the completion of my final year research project on “The Impact of Physical Activity and Food on the Behavioural Habits of Adults in Nevis”. Additionally, my internship, Clinicals and Community, from my Diploma allowed me to gain hands-on experience and a deeper understanding of the health and education systems in Nevis, as it relates to nutrition. While my career has been filled with learning, growth, and challenges, my long-term goal remains to transform and reinvent the wheel of Nutrition and Dietetics in St. Kitts and Nevis.
What inspired you to become a Youth Health Advocate?
As a Clinical Dietitian in St. Kitts and Nevis, I have had the opportunity to witness the devastating impact of non-communicable diseases and obesity on the health of individuals within my community. Food and nutrition play a vital role in mitigating these health challenges, which is why I am extremely passionate about utilising my knowledge and experience to advocate for policies that promote health and nutrition. In light of this, I have taken on the role of a Youth Health Advocate. I truly believe that by promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting policies that prioritise health, we can make a significant impact in the lives of young people who are the future leaders of St. Kitts and Nevis. By advocating for change, I hope to enact positive shifts in our community that will impact future generations for the better.
What role do you think policy plays in improving public health?
Policies play a critical role in improving public health and reducing the burden of non-communicable diseases. By promoting healthy behaviours, such as physical activity and healthy eating, evidence-based policies can help to prevent and manage many chronic diseases. Additionally, policies can address the social determinants of health, such as poverty and inequality, that contribute to poor health outcomes. For example, policies that increase access to healthy foods and reduce the availability of unhealthy foods can help to address the obesity epidemic. Policies that promote smoke-free environments can help to reduce the incidence of smoke-related diseases. Overall, policies that prioritise public health can have a significant impact on improving the health outcomes and quality of life of individuals and communities.
How does your role as a Youth Health Advocate align with your career goals?
In a country with limited health policies, I would like to see the government take a more active role in promoting health and nutrition by investing in programs that promote healthy eating habits, providing access to affordable nutritious food, and creating policies that support healthy living. As such, my role as a Youth Health Advocate aligns perfectly with my long-term career goals of transforming and reinventing the landscape of nutrition and health in St. Kitts and Nevis. By advocating for health and nutrition policies, I will be able to influence positive change in my community and make a lasting impact on the health outcomes of our federation.
What are you most looking forward to about working with Lake Health and Wellbeing and the You’re Sweet Enough campaign?

Their advocacy efforts to improve the health system in St. Kitts and Nevis are inspirational. I look forward to being a part of a team that shares common goals and a common vision to see a brighter future. I look forward to being involved in a more active role in promoting health which can be achieved with the “You’re Sweet Enough” campaign.
