Exciting Next Steps for Our Research Project

We are delighted to share an exciting update on our partnership with Dr. Fanta Waterman, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Division of Community Health Sciences at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health. This collaboration has taken a significant step forward as Dr. Waterman’s project, A Study Examining Policy Frameworks for Women’s Health in St. Kitts and Nevis (SKN) and Patient Perceptions and Experiences with Care, has recently received ethics approval from both UIC’s Institutional Review Board and the Ministry of Health in St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ethics Review Committees.

We are thrilled to be an implementing partner on this project and look forward to getting started. This research is aimed at exploring women’s health policies from the perspectives of both policymakers and the community. The findings will generate important recommendations to strengthen women’s healthcare, policies, and interventions—which we hope will ultimately contribute to better health outcomes for women in St. Kitts and Nevis.

A Participatory Approach to Research

A key component of this project involves conducting focus groups in both St. Kitts and Nevis, along with interviews with policymakers. Our approach will be based on an adapted version of the Feminist Global Health Policy Framework, which prioritises participatory research methods. This means that we will be engaging with our community throughout the research process to ensure that the voices and experiences of women in St. Kitts and Nevis shape our work.

Anticipated Impact and Significance

  • Ensuring that the perspectives of women in St. Kitts and Nevis are considered in decision-making.
  • Offering evidence-based recommendations to strengthen women’s healthcare, policies, and interventions.
  • Supporting the Ministry of Health in refining strategies to achieve better healthcare access and outcomes for women in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Get Involved

We are aiming to conduct our focus groups and interviews in the coming months. If you are interested in participating or learning more, stay tuned for further details.
