Welcome to our new weekly podcast where we give you health news, views and interviews in just 5 minutes. This is our first episode, we hope you find it interesting.
A couple of weeks ago the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria announced their new partnership with Heineken and this raised a number of eyebrows. Many people asked the question: should health charities form partnerships with the alcohol industry?
In today’s episode, we discuss public-private partnerships in the health sector and give our view on the Global Fund/Heineken partnership, and the types of business partnerships that we think health charities should veer away from.
We hope you enjoy this episode and let us know what you think about this topic in the comments section below.
See you in our next episode.
And, urm, sorry, we went went over our 5 minute time limit! We’ll do better next time 🙂
That is a really odd partnership. Something smells “fishy” to me. Perhaps Global Fund is short on funds and maybe Heineken offered a large donation in exchange for Global Fund”s credibility.
Yes, a very odd partnership indeed. We just couldn’t understand why a organisation that aims to fight these diseases would team up with a business that sells a product that increases a person’s risk of developing said diseases – strange. Maybe it’s all about money, if it is, what a shame, some things are more important than money.
